The Problem
Inventory accuracy is at the heart of effective operations. For many Sortly users, though, stock counts have been a manual and disconnected process.
Teams often rely on spreadsheets, paper logs, and even memory to manage their records. This leads to inventory errors, missing stock, and failed audits.
The Goal
How might we help teams collaboratively and accurately verify inventory by guiding them through role-based stock counts that are real-time, traceable, and seamlessly embedded in Sortly, eliminating the need for spreadsheets or guesswork?
Build, Test, Learn
We focused on quickly building a lean mobile version of Stock Counts, testing it with select customers, and validating that it solved the right problems. Once we confirmed the solution was on track, I handed it off to another product designer and team to expand the feature into a full release, including the web version.
The Beta Impact
In the mobile beta, customers responded positively to the status-driven, assignable, in-system workflows. Many had previously hacked together solutions with custom fields and exports, but V1 gave them a structured way forward. Within just 45 days, 5% of accounts had adopted the beta, and 50% of initiated counts were completed within 30 days. These results provided strong proof that the solution was on track.
